Here are certain medications that have produced problems seen recently in the clinic. Just because some patients have problems does not mean that you will get these problems. In fact, any change in prescribed medicine should be done only with the blessing of the prescribing doctor.
Avandia (rosiglitazone)
This is a diabetic medication. It has been associated with diabetic macular edema (a type of diabetic retinopathy that can cause loss of vision).
Bisphosphonates (marketed as Actonel, Actonel+Ca, Aredia, Boniva, Didronel, Fosamax, Fosamax+D, Reclast, Skelid, and Zometa). These drugs are used to help prevent osteoporosis. I have seen patients come in with inflammation in the eye (iritis), which seemed to be associate with their bisphosphonate usage.
