Billing and Insurance

Will my insurance cover my visit to see Dr. Benson?

For medical visits it has been our experience that there are usually NO restrictions. This does not always apply for routine exams or for insurances that put annual or biannual limits. It is always best to review your policy handbook and be as knowledgeable as possible about your medical coverage.

Do you bill my VSP insurance?

No. Since Dr. Benson is a Medical Doctor we are not allowed to participate in any Vision Service Plan. We will be more than happy to provide a claim form for you to submit for reimbursement.

What insurance plans do you accept?

We are preferred providers for Medicare, Regence Blue Shield, Premera Blue Cross, Uniform Medical, Northwest Physicians Network (NPN), Molina, Washington Medicaid (DSHS), Aetna, United Healthcare, Beech Street Plans, and First Choice Plans. We bill all Medicare supplemental insurances. We are not providers for Tricare Prime but in case of an emergency we will bill them with the understanding that there may be a larger out of pocket expense to the patient.

Some of the common insurances that our office accepts are:

  • Aetna
  • Cigna
  • Great West
  • First Choice
  • First Health
  • Lifewise Health
  • Mail Handlers
  • Medicare
  • Mutual of Omaha
  • NPN
  • Pacificare
  • Premera Blue Cross
  • Premera North Star
  • Regence Blue Shield
  • Regence Selections
  • Secure Horizons
  • Tricare For Life
  • Uniform Medical
  • United Healthcare
  • and others

Dr. Benson is a medical doctor, and so we do accept most medical insurances. However, you should always be sure to check with your insurance first to see if we are in your system and are covered, as there are countless types of insurance plans within a single insurance company.

For patients without insurance, our office offers a discount for cash payments. Call to find out more.

Are you taking new patients?

Yes. Molina Healthily Options patients must have a medical reason for the exam and a referral from their Primary Care Physicians. Any HMO patients must have a referral prior to being seen by the doctor.

What should I bring to my first visit?

We ask that you bring picture ID, all insurance cards, be aware of your medical history, have a list of all your medicines you take, and any glasses you are wearing.

Is my refraction covered?

It has been our experience that refractions may or may not be covered by your medical insurance. Medicare does not cover this charge. According to their policy they consider this procedure routine no matter what the circumstances. Some of the secondary policies will pick this up, some will apply this to a deductible and many will not cover the charge at all. Please either check your handbook or call your insurances customer service representative.

Who can I contact with billing questions?

We have our billing staff member here Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoon to answer questions. Her direct line is 253-584-4647.

Some insurances require a referral, and it is the responsibility of the patient to ensure that all paperwork such as referrals are received prior to the appointment.
